Stopped Vehicle Detection – Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions road operators, tunnel operators and cities ask most often about our AI stopped vehicle detection.

What is stopped vehicle detection?

Stopped vehicle detection (SVD) is the automatic recognition of a vehicle that has stopped on a road, highway, expressway, in a tunnel or on a bridge. Our software uses artificial intelligence to analyse live video from traffic cameras and alerts the operator when a vehicle stops where it should not.

Do we need to buy new cameras?

No. The analysis runs only on the existing video stream, whether it comes from digital (IP) cameras or analog (CCTV) cameras. All you need to do is give our software access to the video stream – there is no investment in new camera hardware.

Does the detection work at night?

Yes. Our AI is trained on hundreds of thousands of real-world traffic events, and for each camera we train a separate model for daytime and for nighttime footage, so the detection stays reliable day and night.

How do you keep false alarms low?

We aim to keep false alarms to a maximum of 2 per hour per camera. Every camera gets its own model, fine-tuned to its angle, lighting and traffic situation. In addition, detection sensitivity is adjustable per camera, masks exclude zones such as parking lots or side roads, and detection can be paused for a set time during traffic jams.

How is the system controlled?

Through a web browser after a secure login – no special software has to be installed. Operators can start, stop or pause detection, adjust sensitivity, draw detection masks and control cameras in groups according to road sections.

Can it be integrated with our existing traffic systems?

Yes. We connect the software with your existing systems, such as traffic control centres or messaging platforms, and adapt notifications, the user interface or analytical tools to your workflows.

What data does the system provide besides alerts?

You also get data on the frequency and duration of vehicle stops, which you can use to optimise traffic infrastructure and planning.

Can the system be deployed outside Slovakia?

Yes. Because the software only needs access to the camera video stream, it can be deployed for road operators, motorway concessionaires, tunnel operators and cities in any country.

Who develops the software and what support do you offer?

The software is developed by Siska Solutions s.r.o., a software company from Nitra, Slovakia, with over 20 years of experience. We provide implementation, regular updates, maintenance and 24/7 technical support.

Where is the system in operation and can it be used in tunnels?

The system is in operation on expressways in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Because it only analyses the existing video stream, it can also be deployed in tunnels, on bridges and on urban roads. More on the highways and tunnels page.
