Stopped Vehicle Detection on Highways and in Tunnels

A vehicle stopped in a live lane is one of the most serious hazards on fast roads. Our AI software watches your existing traffic cameras and alerts operators when a vehicle stops on a highway, expressway, bridge or in a tunnel.

Stopped Vehicle Detection on Highways and Expressways

Our system is in operation on expressways in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, monitoring road sections managed by motorway operators. On highways and expressways the software has to deal with long camera views, distant vehicles, heavy traffic and changing light. That is why we train a separate model for each camera, with separate training for day and night.

  • Detection of vehicles stopped in running lanes, on the hard shoulder and in emergency lay-bys (zones can be masked out where stopping is allowed).
  • Cameras grouped by road section and controlled collectively from the web control panel.
  • Detection can be paused for a predefined period during traffic jams so operators are not flooded with notifications.
  • Works with the existing IP or analog (CCTV) cameras along the road.

Stopped Vehicle Detection in Tunnels

In tunnels a stopped vehicle can quickly turn into a serious incident, and tunnel operators already monitor dense camera networks. The detection principle is the same as on open roads: the software analyses the existing video stream, so it can be deployed in tunnels without changing the cameras. Each tunnel camera gets its own trained model adapted to the lighting and the view.

Are you planning stopped vehicle detection for a tunnel? Contact us – we will assess your cameras and propose a pilot.

Bridges and Urban Roads

Bridges, flyovers and busy urban arterials have the same problem: a broken-down vehicle blocks a lane where there is no space to avoid it. Our software can monitor these locations from the same control centre as your highway cameras.
